3 ways medical insurance can help pay for your oral appliance

1. What is the first step in getting my oral appliance covered by medical insurance?

We have a dedicated sleep apnea coordinator and a third party medical billing specialist that will handle your medical insurance claim for your sleep apnea oral device by running a pre-authorization. At this time dental insurances do not provide coverage for sleep apnea oral devices. Medical insurance coverage varies depending on the type of medical insurance you have and your deductible. We will work closely with your medical insurance to get you the best coverage possible and we can even request if they will extend in-network rates for your sleep apnea oral appliance through a process called gap coverage.

2. What documents will I need to bring to my office visit?

Visit us at Blooming Dental & Implant Center, located in West Caldwell, NJ and we can let you know the information your specific medical insurance requires to run a pre-authorization. Typically all we need is your medical insurance card, your license, a prescription from your referring physician for the appliance and a copy of your sleep study. Our sleep apnea coordinator will ensure the process is seamless for you so you can obtain your sleep apnea oral appliance as soon as possible.

3. I have a CPAP and I don’t like using it. Can I still get an oral sleep appliance?

Oral appliance therapy is used to treat the symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Only your physician can diagnose you with sleep apnea but your dentist can fabricate the oral appliance for treatment. A sleep study is required to get the official diagnosis to get the process started for treating your OSA. Many patients have a CPAP for their OSA but cannot tolerate it due to a variety of reasons such as finding the mask uncomfortable and difficult to sleep with. If you are intolerant to the CPAP or you are simply interested in moving forward with the oral appliance to treat your sleep apnea we are happy to discuss the benefits of the device and help you get started on the process of obtaining one through your medical insurance.
