Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT)

Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT)

Oral appliance therapy is a widely accepted and effective non-CPAP treatment for many patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring. Rather than using a mask and airflow, OAT uses a custom dental device that repositions the jaw or supports the airway to keep upper airway structures open during sleep.

Key features & benefits of Oral Appliance Therapy:

  • Comfort & convenience — no mask, tube, or machine
  • Discreet & portable — easy to travel with
  • Better compliance — many find it easier to stick with nightly use
  • Less noise — silent operation
  • Insurance coverage — often covered when prescribed for OSA
  • Adjustability — many devices allow fine tuning to optimize comfort and effectiveness

While OAT may not replace CPAP in every case (especially severe OSA), it is an excellent option for patients who struggle with CPAP tolerance, claustrophobia, mask leaks, or discomfort.
